Marriage Ceremonies

Who can perform a marriage ceremony?

In California, marriage ceremonies may be performed by any of the following who are 18 years of age or older:

• Priests, Rabbis, or Ministers of any religious denomination
• Commissioners of Civil Marriages
• Judges
• Legislators or Constitutional Officers of this state, or a member of Congress who represents a district within this state, while the official holds office
• Mayor of a city while the official holds office
• County Supervisors while the official holds office

These are general guidelines only, authority on who can legally perform ceremonies is administered by the California Department of Public Health.

Civil Ceremonies

Our office is available to perform civil ceremonies in English or Spanish on Wednesday afternoons, by appointment only.

The fee for the ceremony is $45 in addition to the $70 Marriage License fee.

If you are getting married at the County Clerk's Office, it is required that you have at least one witness to your ceremony (unless issued a Confidential License). If you cannot provide a witness, one may be provided for a $40 fee.
